I. Almost every aspect of the historic landscape has been lost:
A: Loss of beauty, especially that exquisite beauty of the small and complex and unexpected, of rog-orchids or sundews or dragonflies
B: Loss of freedom, of highways and open spaces
C: Loss of historic vegetation and wildlife, most of which is gone forever: to recreate an ancient wood is beyond human knowledge.
D: Loss of meaning. The landscape is a record of our roots and the growth of civilization. Each individual historic wood, heath, etc. is uniquely different from every other, and each has something to tell us.
(c) Oliver Rackham 'A history of the countryside' 1986
II. River 'Wulka' near Oslip/Uzlop/Burgenland. [The landscape, in this respect there is no difference from the streets, squares, houses and palaces of the cities, is the result of human ambition and design]
"The mystery and glamour of the place with its sinister atmosphere of forgotten nations appeal to the imagination." Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes/ BBC 1984
